Where should the Bedouin be placed on the Roadmap? Few people have taken notice of the Bedouin communities in Israel. It seems clear that some political leaders would like to keep it that way. Amidst the continuing political struggles in Israel there is one group of citizens who are suffering as perhaps the most overlooked in the region the Bedouin. But with a cultural legacy stretching back many generations, the Bedouin had ceased their nomadic lifestyle and settled in the Negev even before the state of Israel was established. Yet today, some 76,000 people still live as officially unrecognised by the Israeli government, with no access to running water, health clinics, mains electricity, access roads or permanent home and school structures. Despite occupying just 1.3% of the Negev region, their homes continue to be destroyed for development and almost no one is taking any notice. By supporting the Elijah Trust, you are helping us to give a voice to these unheard people. The Elijah Trust The land of Israel Elijah Trust resources |
